RAF Typhoon FGR4s have operated alongside France's air force in a coordinated attack targeting an underground arms cache in Syria used by the IS group, as stated by the British defence ministry.
The facility, identified by intelligence, was thought to be containing munitions and bombs, the announcement noted, and was located in mountains just above Palmyra in Syria's central region.
"Our aircraft used precision-guided Paveway IV munitions to hit a series of entry passages providing entry to the facility... preliminary assessments indicate the target was engaged successfully," the MoD said.
There was no sign of any civilian impact in the strike conducted Saturday night and every plane involved made a safe return, the ministry further stated.
The Typhoon fighters were backed up by a Voyager refuelling tanker.
IS - alternatively referred to as ISIS - imposed jihadist rule over parts of Iraq and Syria before its territorial defeat in 2019.
"This strike shows our UK leadership, and determination to stand shoulder to shoulder with our allies, to eliminate any revival of Daesh and their dangerous and violent ideologies in the Middle East," UK Defence Secretary the Defence Secretary stated.
RAF aircraft have performed patrols over Syrian airspace to "deter any attempted comeback" of the group subsequent to its military defeat at the battle of Baghuz in 2019, the MoD reported.
"I must thank every member of the UK armed forces involved in this mission for their professionalism and their courage," Healey commented. "Including them were thousands of British troops deployed over the festive period. This mission, to take out dangerous terrorists who threaten our safety, demonstrates how British military are ready to step up, all year round, keeping Britain secure at home and influential overseas."
In December, the US military carried out what it called a "massive strike" targeting Daesh sites in Syria, after an assault killed two US servicemembers and a civilian linguist in the Palmyra area.
The UN estimates IS still boasts an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 combatants in Syria and Iraq.
